Dear Johnny5,

You always say that my eyes look just like Bela Lugosi's.
Which to me, of course, is a compliment.

Other women might not like being compared to a male
Hungarian actor that was addicted to heroin, but hey,
he was Dracula.

I love when you leave me lilies with notes calling me
by that name.

Arnold.

Dear Johnny5,

The other night when you came home from a long day at work,
you suggested we watch a movie.
I said, "Ok, what do you want to watch?"

Your answer, to my dismay, was Predator.
As I walked outside, rolling my eyes,
you shouted that you would cue it up.
(That means hunt down DVD in our collection and put in player.)

I came back in the house to a dark living room,
you on the couch, and our wedding video
on the screen.
I love when you trick me.

The Lake.

Dear Johnny5,

I can't believe summer is already ending.
We still have never gone to the lake in this town you grew up in,
that I now call home.
I want to feed the ducks with you,
and don a cardigan and flower in my hair.
Sit by the water and have a picnic,
while I read to you out of one of my books.
Maybe we should do that today.

Firsts.

Dear Johnny 5,

Your first cup of coffee, on the first morning
of our first apartment.
The words "Life's Blood" ring so true.

I don't think I have ever said thank you
for pouring my coffee and setting it out
before you wake me up with back scratches
every morning.

You are the best alarm clock ever.

Ring, Ring, Ring.

Dear Johnny5,

Two years ago this month, you surprised me
with the words "Will you marry me?"

You kept it a secret and executed a plan that most
military generals would be jealous of.

As the ride peaked on one side, you asked that amazing
question, then said, "Look over there!"

Our friends were already on the ride,
and I looked down to see my family running out
with champagne and waving at us way far down on the ground.

How you hid the loudest group of people in the universe
for a couple of hours is still beyond me.

My babe, funnel cakes, and a diamond ring...
is there anything better?
Thanks for making me feel like the most loved
girl in the world.

Love in another country.

Dear Johnny 5,

Week two of our honeymoon was spent in Amsterdam.
We went to the store of your dreams, with skateboard heaven
upstairs, then entered a cave down a winding wooden
staircase housing EVERY SINGLE vinyl record you have ever wanted.
We stumbled upon a copy of your band's record, and the cashier
recognized you.





We toured the Heineken museum at your request,
and made the mistake of trying the hops. We were
just soooo interested in the process of brewing this
delightful beer, we had to sample the ingredients.
It almost made both of us throw up.







Then we got a free beer, and it was all worth it.
Our first Heineken as husband and wife.

Haircut.

Dear Johnny 5,

I absolutely love your new haircut.
When you stepped out of the car, and walked toward me
to hug me hello, I thought you looked like an old timey
soldier coming home from the war.
I also love that you used to own your own barbershop,
and that you still only patron old school ones,
instead of going to some silly salon.

Our House in the Graveyard.

Dear Johnny 5,

I miss our little renovated crematorium house in the middle

of the graveyard.

It scared everyone else so much, but we never felt more alive

than when we lived there.

Our nights with Ben and Jerry's ice cream and lightning storms.

The whole sky would light up, and all of the gravestones

lined up under the big magnolia trees were the most beautiful

thing we had ever seen.

Thanks for holding my hand the day there was a peacock walking

around our front (grave)yard. I really wanted to take

this picture, but my fear of birds was holding me back....

until you made it happen.

The Beginning.

Dear Johnny 5,

Remember that ridiculous scrapbook that I started in 2004 when
we met?
I never kept up with it, and it is lost somewhere in our
collection of records, bones, and art supplies.

So this is my tribute to you. A collection of letters
that will see us through our past, present, and future.
Recording our love, hardships, and the way we think each other
is ridiculously funny.
